26-28 September 2019
This year’s VR Showcase, organised as part of the Digital Cultures 2019 Conference, is featuring Polish and international projects using VR for visual arts, film, animation, reportage, theatre as well as interdisciplinary projects. Some of them resonate closely with this year’s theme. Many will be showcased in Poland for the very first time.
Virtual reality represents a new area of art, which expands at an unprecedented pace. VR continues to be a topic much talked about and even though only a handful have actually experienced it so far, it functions as a metaphor for the future.
While offering new exciting possibilities, VR sets out a brand new series of challenges and issues, which art, throughout centuries, has not yet created or called for answers to. It is an area developing before our very eyes as new solutions are being worked out and fresh narrative conventions are being construed.
Despite being such a recently-emerged area, VR is no longer univocal. The projects showcased in TR Warsaw cover a very broad spectrum. On the one hand, there are big-budget projects, often resorting to cinematic VR, focused on telling one story only. Similarly, documentary projects harness VR for the purposes of documenting, both in art and reportage. The opposite side of the spectrum is represented by projects created by single artists or small groups who concentrate on exploring the media itself as well as the possibilities it provides. These artists more often than not have a background in visual and contemporary arts.
We kindly invite you to pay a visit to TR Warsaw between the 26th and the 28th of September to experience several diverse VR projects from Poland, Ukraine, Germany, and Canada. VR Showcase is an accompanying event of the Digital Cultures Conference held on the 26th & 27th of September in Iluzjon Cinema in Warsaw. Both events are organised by the Adam Mickiewicz Institute.
Registration for VR Showcase takes place through the Digital Cultures app. Admission is free - you don't need to have a DC ticket. Registration is first-come, first-served.
